Report from the National Rehabilitation
Hospital, Ireland, 12 June 2002
- Motor and sensory systems: T11 complete SCI, flaccid
paraplegia. First classified complete, then incomplete on her check-up
dated 12 June 2002 at the National Rehabilitation Hospital de Dublin.
May 2002: walk with callipers without articulation at the knee
and ankle levels (callipers made in Ireland), and a wide base walker.
Check-up on 10 June 2002:

Asia score lower limb power showed 2x5 in the hip flexors and 1x5 in
the knee extensors, ankle dorsiflexors, long toe extensors and ankle
plantar flexors.

Bladder:
5 Feb. 2003: feels when her bladder is full through spasms; passes water normally but uses a catheter in the morning and at
night to empty the vesical residue. Bladder leakings at night.
6 Feb. 2003: feels the passage of water and sometimes feels the
passage of the catheter. No sensations in vaginal area.
- Bowels:
14 Jan. 03: does not feel when her bowels are full; uses suppositories every other day; does not have leakings.

Jan. 2003
1. Independence
- 19 Sep. 2003: can transfer herself to settle at the back
of a car.
2. Stability
- 21 Jan. 2004: has a better balance with
her callipers in parallel bars, and can stand without holding the bars.
3. Mobility
- Since Jan. 2003 (after her first laserponcture®
sessions): moves better in her bed, and has a better sitting
position in her wheelchair.
4.1. Volontary motricity
- Progressively, has more strength and can make wider movements in
her hips and knees since January 2003.
- May 2003: can contract and lift her
kneecaps (right and left).
- 19 Sept. 2003: can move her ankles and big
toes volontarily.
- January 2004: when she sends an order,
can feel a circulation and tension running through her lower limbs down
to the tip of her toes; can move her ankles and big toes volontarily.
4.2. Walking
- January 2003:
walks between parallel bars backwards and forwards with
her callipers made in Ireland and altered in France.
- January 2004: walks on a treadmill
with her callipers made in Ireland and altered in France.
5. Sensory level
- Light touch:
11 July 2003: feels tingling in her legs.
- Pressure:
11 July 2003: feels tingling in her buttocks.
24 Jan. 2004: direct feeling to pressure on the back of her
thighs.
- Pain:
19 Sep. 2003: from time to time, feels pain in her lower limbs when she knocks
herself.
21 Jan. 2004: from time to time, feels pain on the back of her lower limbs.
16 April 2004: can feel pain in her buttocks when pressure.
- Hot:
Cannot feel hot water or heat from the sun / heater.
- Cold:
Jan. 2004: cannot feel cold water; sometimes feels the cold on
the front of her 1/3 lower thighs, knees, legs and front of her feet
(L3-L4-L5-S1 dermatoms)
- Sweating:
January 2003 (after the first laserponcture® sessions): sweats on her lower limbs and feet
when exercising.

- Has a new wheelchair which has
a low back. Caroline has now a straight sitting position and more
muscles in her back.
6. Bowels and bladder
- Bowels:
24 March 2003: can feel when bowels are full, but not constant.
Since Dec. 2003: anorectal sensation.
January 2004: keeps using suppositories every day but is able to
push.
- Bladder:
24 March 2003: increased capacity of her bladder.
19 Sep. 2003: no more leaking at nights, can hold the water one
hour without leaking. Normal sensation when her bladder is full.
October 2003: can hold water 30 minutes when she feels the urge
to go during the day.
21 Jan. 2004: since that week, has the time to transfer and
go to the bathroom when she needs to go at night.
- Intimate sensations:
19 June 2003: has some sensations in the vaginal area.
21 Jan. 2004: has some sensations during sexual intercourse.
