To: President de la commission d’étude sur le laserponcture

Dear Sir:

I am writing in support of the Laserponcture Therapy developed by Albert Bohbot (La Chapelle Montlinard). I strongly believe that that this therapy can help many with spinal cord injury (SCI), a neurological disorder once considered so intractable that its repair has been described as the Holy Grai of neurological research.

My belief is based on visits to Mr. Bohbot’s clinic, discussions with his patients, my authoring of several articles and a book chapter focused on his work, and my extensive SCI-professional experience. For your reference, I’m a former 1) Director, Spinal Cord Research Foundation, 2) Nation-Institutes-of-Health division director, and 3) Food-and-Drug-Administration regulatory scientist. I’m currently funded by the Paralyzed Veterans of America to research various therapies that expand the SCI-healing spectrum; and also by the Icelandic government to create a database on SCI therapies as part of a World-Health-Organization SCI Center.

Laserponcture is based on the unique amalgamation of two therapies (i.e., acupuncture and laser), both of which have been independently shown to provide SCI-related benefits. Many intriguing studies are emerging that support Laserponcture’s feasibility. For example, Israel’s Dr. Semion Rochkind showed that function-restoring cell transplantation was greatly enhanced by laser therapy. In another example, Dr. Kimberly Byrnes (US) demonstrated that laser energy alters gene expression after SCI, as well as in cells being transplanted into the injured spinal cord.

Overall, I believe Mr. Bohbot is a pioneer ahead of his time, and the future will increasingly demonstrate the validity of his seminal insights that could benefit so many with one of mankind’s most devastating disorders.

Sincerely,

Laurance Johnston, Ph.D.
